Kodak EasyShare C533 Digital Camera [5MP 3X Optical Zoom]
manufacturer: Kodak

price: £119.99

More info about the Kodak EasyShare C533 Digital Camera [5MP 3X Optical Zoom]
Although I don t own this precise model it has the same specifications as mine (5 megapixels etc). I have had mine for coming up 2 years and it still takes the same great pictures it s always taken even though I have dropped it a few times!
This camera has everything - different modes for different environments to ensure the camera is put to it s maximum use e.g. sport mode which has a faster shutter speed landscape mode night-mode Macro etc. I particularly like Macro mode which enables you to take pictures about 10-12cm away from the subject. I have taken some stunning clear photos in this mode (for example water droplets on a leaf). Also the extensive menu allows you to adjust your shutter speed so clear pictures can even be taken in candle light! I was surprised at just how much I could do with this little camera.
The movie capture is very good for a digital camera (and it has very good sound) and due to a video cable supplied with the camera you can play back all your videos and photos on the TV to the rest of the family; rather than huddle around a computer screen.
Unlike some cameras which only have digital zoom this one has 3x optical zoom to ensure no quality is lost when zooming in. 5 million pixels does give an excellent picture although this is now becoming out-dated with newer models arriving at 8-10 million pixels. If you get the pictures printed properly at a shop (which is cheap) the quality is good enough that you sometimes forget it was taken with a digital camera! They look as if they were taken with a 35mm camera.
As the name easyshare suggests this camera is easy to use and a good size - big enough to hold but not so chunky it won t fit easily into your bag. You can take as many pictures as you like and each one can be reviewed there and then; you can zoom in really close and pan around to check that no-one blinked or to check that it was in focus! If you re not happy you can delete it and do it again on the spot.

Having had a different make of camera before I d say Kodak have really got it right and I d definitely buy their products again. I never go anywhere without it now!

Kodak V610 Dual Lens digital camera 6 MP 10x Optical Zoom. The world s smallest 10x optical zoom digital camera
manufacturer: Kodak

price: £215.00

More info about the Kodak V610 Dual Lens digital camera 6 MP 10x Optical Zoom. The world s smallest 10x optical zoom digital camera
A rather neat and tidy package the V610 is billed as the world s smallest 10x optical zoom digital camera . This would perhaps be it s biggest selling point until you consider the day-to-day practicality of such an extensive focal range - especially as it requires very bright conditions not to mention a steady hand to take crisp snaps at maximum zoom. Easier done with a heavier and grippier SLR than with a lightweight compact.

Consider this is the quality of a digitally blown up long range photo taken at 5x optical magnification likely to be THAT much poorer than one taken at 10X magnification with handshake and inherent loss in optical resolution factored in? Remember you are a paying a premium for this added focal length on the V610.

This said you have to marvel at how Kodak have managed to hide such a powerful zoom apparatus completely inside the slimline case. Ok there are more emaciated compacts out there but rememember all this optical wizardry happens inside the case out of sight. i.e. No protruding lenses to startle you subject and give the game away!

The other more solid selling feature that will appeal to many has to be the large crystal-clear display. It really makes the task of framing your subject a whole lot easier particularly when holding the camera at arms length. After all how can you take good photos if you can t see your subject clearly? It also adds immensely to the overall fun aspect of this camera. Whilst all digital cameras will allow you to instantly review your pictures few do so on a bright 2.8 inch hi-resolution screen as does the Kodak. The LCD picture is so good you could almost forgo uploading them to your PC for viewing. We re talking instant gratification here !

Another strength worthy a mention is the power-up speed of the camera. Press the ON switch and it s ready to take the first snap in under 2 seconds. The lag time between one photo and the next is also reasonably short adding to the camera s functional appeal.

Equally commendable is the video feature. So good that you could almost leave the camcorder at home. It s all about versatility.

As the old adage goes never a high without a low and the first achilles heal of the V610 reveals itself after the sun goes down. The problem is simple. A weak flash that is not always up to the task. True to say no compact is endowed with a blinding in-built flash of supernova magnitude but there are cheaper digital compacts out there that produce much better results indoors. If indoor photography is your prime consideration you may wish to look elsewhere.

What about the most important aspect of any camera the resultant picture quality? Well I ve compared photos taken on a cheaper older Nikon with photos taken of the same scene on the higher mega-pixel ed V610 and I have to say that the Kodak does not particularly stand out. You can t help wondering whether the science of hiding all this lens technology inside the case for the sake of form may have been done at some expense to optical quality. At the end of the day it s always going to be a compromise.

All in all a very entertaining feature-packed (albeit pricey!) offering from Kodak. If nothing else the bluetooth capability will clinch the deal for many. Drop the price another £50 and I would recommend it without any hesitation whatsoever.

Kodak EasyShare C875 8 MP 5x Optical Zoom.
manufacturer: Kodak

price: £128.00

More info about the Kodak EasyShare C875 8 MP 5x Optical Zoom.
8MP with 5X optical zoom...great image quality and a very clever smart scene function which chooses the correct setting for you (macro/portrait/landscape etc) it works very well.

This camera uses the same 8 megapixel CCD image sensor as the bigger model P880 and produces great colour resolution with low noise

The auto mode can be over-ridden and you have access to shutter/aperture priority..loads of scene modes etc

This camera is a sturdy compact design with a very good LCD screen and a nice integral lenscap which closes over the lens when you power down

I love the Panorama feature..you can take up to 3 shots at 3.1MP no flash and the camera stitches them together to give you a wide vista shot...great feature takes a bit of practice but I think I have it mastered now

I very much doubt if any of the competitor models offer better image quality than this and the price is very competetive

I was going to remove one star for no optical viewfinder which I would have liked but this is now fairly typical of this class of camera and composing a shot with the LCD is actually very good now that the resolution of the screen is so high...uses 2 AA batteries which is either a good or a bad thing depending on your personal view...battery life is ok but always carry a couple of spare AAs as you have to use the screen alot NOTE there is a Lithium ion rechargeable battery pack available for this camera CR-V3 which can be used instead of AAs which lasts for ages so I recommend that if you want really good battery life...buy one (or two) CRV3 batteries and a charger...you will never ever have a problem

If you are new to Kodaks..the easyshare supplied software is the best around...no photoshop you understand but a great photo management package with loads of great easy to use features

I think it is great I carry mine everywhere the best small camera that I have ever used...at last a small camera that produces really good results
